Global danish architecture

It is a known fact that things are going well for Danish architect companies these days. The drawing offices are winning more and more prestigious international competitions, such as aart a/s’ recent first place project in Stavanger: the 19,500 m² housing block made in wood entitled, Norwegian Wood.

The Danish architect practices have been experts at reading recent global trends and then interpreting and exploring them from a traditional Nordic architectural perspective. This has also been the core of aart a/s’ work. A large proportion of new Danish architecture is believed to have done so well in these competitions because of their experimental and simple solutions that take a starting point in Danish tradition. In this way they have lead the race for the international prizes.

The publishing house, Archipress M has just published a book, "Global Danish Architecture". The theme of the book is precisely the globalization process that has given Danish architecture so much success in recent years. The book presents 54 current projects- both completed buildings and buildings in progress- from eleven Danish drawing offices. In connection with the release of the book, a reception was held on 9th January 2007 at ARoS Museum of Art in Århus.

aart a/s has contributed five projects to the book: FDF Friluftscenter Sletten, Bikuben Kollegiet, Kulturværftet i Helsingør, Kirkecenter i Hinnerup and Sametinget i Kiruna, Sverige .

In January, ARoS Museum of Art in Århus and DAC (the Danish Architecture centre) in Copenhagen, will host a digital exhibition of a selection of projects from the book. Subsequently the video and book will be exhibited at Danish Cultural Institutes in England, China, Russia, the Benelux countries, Poland, Hungary, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
