Berg - fremtiden studentby

Berg – Student campus of the future

It has just been announced that we, in collaboration with engineering advisers Moe & Brødsgaard, have won 2nd prize in the open international competition “Berg – Student campus of the future” for 500 halls of residence in Trondheim, Norway.

The competition was arranged by the Norwegian National Association of Architects and Ecobox. The two organisations arranged a series of competitions with the title “Imagine”. The ambitious mission of this series of competitions is to promote the spectacular and innovative use of wood in architecture.

The goal of the first competition in this series (“Norwegian Wood – the new wooden town”), for which we won 1st prize, was the creation of 19,500 sq m. of innovative wooden apartment blocks in Stavanger. The project will function as an international shop window for the use of wood in apartment blocks, when Stavanger becomes European City of Culture in 2008.

The practice is thrilled to participate in these competitions. They provide an opportunity to focus on the firm’s central architectural mission: to challenge, develop and renew Scandinavian architectural tradition. We are, of course, further delighted and proud to win 1st prize for a project such as this.

Also in Norway, in Sarpsborg, we have been selected to make our tender for a 10,000 sq m. centre for science and innovation, providing exhibition facilities, laboratories, classrooms, auditorium and planetarium.
